Tech firms eagerly await Alt HAN Invitation to Tender (ITT)

 The Alt HAN Co is reaching out to technology vendors ahead of the soon to be released Invitation to Tender (ITT) for Alternative Home Area Network technologies and solutions.


It follows the success of the recent Vendor Engagement Event held in late August by the Alt HAN Co, which saw close to 40 different organisations attend and discuss the Alt HAN procurement approach and technology design.


The session proved invaluable in encouraging discussion and finalising a procurement approach. Vendors that have expressed an interest will receive an NDA, which must be completed prior to receiving an invitation to tender.  On or around the 25th October 2017, the invitation to tender will be released and vendors will have until early December 2017 to respond.

This is part of the programme to install SMART electricity and gas meters to all residential and small business customers in GB by the end of 2020.  The new Alt HAN technology is needed to address 3.5% of buildings where the currently planned smart metering solutions are likely to be difficult to deploy due to device to device communication restrictions.

Vendor Engagement Event – Technology Services for GB Smart Metering Alternative Home Area Networks

A Vendor Engagement event will be held on the 30th of August 2017 to engage and inform industry on the scope of services, requirements and procurement process which will be followed to develop and install Alternative Home Area Network (Alt HAN) technologies to meet energy suppliers’ smart metering obligations to the UK Government.

The UK Government requires that energy suppliers install smart electricity and gas meters in all of their residential and small business customer premises within Great Britain (GB) by the end of 2020. It is recognised that in approximately 3.5% of GB premises Standard HAN technologies will not connect all smart metering devices and that Alt HAN technologies will be necessary to allow energy suppliers to complete their rollouts. GB energy suppliers have established Alt Han Company as a special purpose company to deliver Alt HAN solutions.

Due to the complex and / or immature nature of solutions currently available to achieve this outcome, the Alt HAN Company is seeking to work with vendors to develop and deliver Alt HAN technologies and services. This Vendor Engagement event will inform vendors of the different stages of the procurement process, the scope of requirements and our collaborative approach to development. Vendors will be provided with an opportunity to submit brief feedback on the day.

The event will be held at 14:00 in central London on Wednesday, 30 August 2017.

Cross Code Engagement

The newest Principle of the Code Administration Code of Practice (CACoP), Principle 13, outlines that Code Administrators (CAs) will endeavour to work with each other on modifications that may
impact multiple Codes.

As a result, a spreadsheet is being hosted on the MRASCo website which is updated monthly by CAs to ensure that changes across the industry are progressed efficiently.

Cross Code Engagement Group (CCEG) May 2015 Update

CCEG was formed as a result of the newest Principle of the Code
Administration Code of Practice (CACoP) being introduced,
Principle 13, which outlines that Code Administrators (CAs) will
endeavour to work with each other on modifications that may impact
multiple Codes.
Therefore, monthly meetings are being held between
representatives of the Distribution Connection and Use of System
Agreement (DCUSA), Supply Point Administrator Agreement
(SPAA), Balance and Settlement Code (BSC) and Gemserv to
ensure that upcoming changes can be addressed and progressed
efficiently across the Codes.
